PUTRAJAYA, 20th MAY – After six days and five nights, the orientation program for students of May intake 2017/2018 came to a close on 19th May 2017. The event that started on 14th May was held mainly at Dewan Seri Sarjana (DSS), Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN) and the main objective of this program was to prepare new students for their upcoming lives in university.
Throughout the program, students were briefed about various matters, inclusive of UNITEN’s code of conduct, available departments, financial assistance and calculation of their Cumulative Grade Points Average (CGPA). Students were also divided into small groups to break the ice and introduce one another as well as carry out activities to build up their bond.
One of the facilitators of the event, a second year major in Information Systems named Luqman Haziq bin Ramli, commented on how he felt regarding the event. “I think this is one of the best (orientations) that I have been through. Even though only 300+ students registered for this intake, most of them are sporting, intellectual and proactive. They all cooperated well during orientation and could perform well as a team. Plus, I see a lot of future leaders from this intake and I hope they excel.\”
The last event for the orientation program was an oath-taking ceremony taking place at DSS, officiated by by Dato\’ Prof. Ir. Dr. Kamal Nasharuddin Mustapha, Vice Chancellor of UNITEN. We, from NADi UNITEN, also managed to interview a couple of new students on their expectations for the future.
Ahmad Faiq bin Ahmad Farizul, a newly registered foundation student majoring in Mechanical Engineering is hopeful for the future. \”In my opinion, universities especially UNITEN, are an overall changing experience. Over the past few days, I have learned more than I could have on how to build self confidence from leading a small group to a bigger group as well as how to work together as a team.\”
\”What I hope from UNITEN is to get more memorable moments, as some of these moments may be the greatest life altering experiences. I also hope to have amazing educational experience and to help create a better life for myself. Lastly I hope every second in UNITEN is an experience filled with amazing moments and will be the best thing I have ever dreamed of.\” he added.
Another student, Nur Alyaa binti Hazrin, a foundation student in Civil Engineering also had some thoughts to add. \”When I first stepped into the university of my choice, my hope was to not only enhance my abilities but also be the best that I can be when I go out as a graduate. I have been following UNITEN for a few years now because I have a relative that studies, teaches and lives there and I could see how proactive and successful she is in life despite the struggles. I have no doubt that Uniten could shape me to be the same, make me the best that I can be so that I can walk on earth not only as a survivor but a champion to the nation.\”
We from NADi UNITEN wish all of the new students a great university life ahead of them in Universiti Tenaga Nasional!
