IPOH, 11th December – Universiti Tenaga Nasional (Uniten) hacking team ‘There’ has made us proud again as they became the first runners up for CyberSOCKS Regional Hacking Competition 2016, which was held at Hotel Casuarina @ Meru, Ipoh on 10th December 2016.
The competition was formatted in a jeopardy style capture the flag (CTF) hacking competition, where teams were required to find “flags”, or answers, that were hidden from the participants in multiple ways. Participants were required to use their skills in hacking, programming and basic web programming to hence “capture the flag”.
At the end of the competition, two teams, ‘There’ and ‘N/A’ were tied in marks. However, as ‘N/A’ had submitted their flags earlier, they were crowned the overall champions of the competition. Achieving third place was UniKL’s team named ‘NOPSIed’, whose scores were slightly behind the winner’s and the first runner up’s.
The team, consisting of Nazrul Affiq bin Ahmad Amimar, Lim Kien Seng and Mokhdzani Faeq Bin Mohamed Fauad, won themselves a one-person sponsorship to Fortinet, Canada, of which Mokhdhzani Faeq was given the opportunity.
When asked regarding their thoughts over the victory, the team remained humble. “Personally, in every competition I have participated in, it doesn\’t matter if you win or lose at first. What does matter is what you are going to do next,” said Nazrul Affiq.
“I still need to improve my skills and learn a lot,” he added, “It was tough but we contributed to each other. It was a team effort.”
NADi applauds ‘There’ on their success and wishes them all the best in future pursuits. Best of luck!
