MoU Signed Between UNITEN and Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID)

KAJANG, 31st MAY – Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID) on the 29th May 2017 at Dewan Kuliah 1 (DK1), College of Computer Science and Information Technology (CSIT) as a smart collaboration strategy between university and government agency. Representing UNITEN were Dato’ Prof. Ir. Dr. Kamal Nasharuddin Mustapha, Vice Chancellor of UNITEN and Datin Prof. Ir. Dr. Lariyah Mohd Sidek, Assistant Vice Chancellor (Research) while Dato’ Sri Ir. Haji Zulkefli Hassan, Director General of DID Malaysia signed on the behalf of DID.

 

 

The MOU aimed not only to develop and maintain a strong relationship between the two organisations but also planned to develop research and development capabilities in ensuring effective management of storm water and flood mitigation. New green technologies are also hoped to stem from this collaboration to enhance water quality and lessen negative impacts on the environment.

The event was held along with the 2nd Young Hydrologist Career Event, which comprised career talks, presentations of papers as well as an invention competition to find the best hydraulic arm.

“This collaboration will give an opportunity to our researchers in UNITEN to work together with professionals in DID as well as discover new potentials, especially in the field of civil engineering,” said Dato’ Prof. Kamal, “Through this research, students will be given optimum exposure about the field as compared to only theory. This goes hand in hand with our goal to develop students that are competent, innovative and creative.”

DID also expresses excitement for the future. “This exchange of specialties and technologies sharpens students’ personal skills as well as ensures job opportunities for the student,” said Dato’ Sri. Zulkefli, \”We are confident that the research conducted will assist DID as well as educational institutions to find new discoveries as well as speed the development of Malaysia.\”
