
MIRI, 6th OCTOBER – Six of Universiti Tenaga Nasional’s (UNITEN) Student Representative Council (SRC) members have took part in the recently concluded Borneo Youth Leadership Conference 2016 (BYLC 2016), which took place at Curtin University, Sarawak, Malaysia from 29th September to 2nd October. Joining the SRC UNITEN delegation were with the remaining 24 participants from Pakistan, Brunei, Australia and students from Curtin Srawak. The six SRC members who participated in this conference were Aimie Umielia, Faiz Adlan, Haniff Malek, Kishanthini Sinappan, Roshan Charles Razali and Amar Amjad.
With the theme “Igniting the Millennium Mind”, this conference was held for 4 days with various activities such as motivational and self-improvement talks, interactive and sports activities that helped to ignite the leader among millenniums today. Some of the notable speakers include singer-songwriter RESH, TEDx speaker Delwin Kaesberry, Kasmariza Kassim of TalentCorp, Jacintha Johnson-Chan, founder of Jacintha Johnson Media and Design and Edan Syah, the youngest and fastest Malaysia to finish the 119th Boston Marathon 2015. The topics spoke by the speakers ranges from motivation to equipping individuals in order to be better prepared in the face of hardships. The event ended with a gala dinner and a closing ceremony.
With that, we asked Kishanthini Sinappan, the Corporate Communications Bureau of SRC UNITEN to share her experience on this conference.
“What I’ve learned from attending this conference is to improve my leadership skills because they gave us the platform to voice our opinions and speak in public with being afraid to be judged. Besides, the best part of this conference is to know new people from different countries and work together as a team. Lastly, this conference provides loads of information and knowledge which can be useful to students like me.”
