
PUTRAJAYA, 14th MARCH – The talk entitled “Importance of Leaving a Legacy” by the Deputy Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs & Alumni of UNITEN, Prof. Dr. Mohd Zamri Bin Yusoff took place at Dewan Kuliah 1 (DK1), College of Computer Science and Information Technology (CSIT), UNITEN with over 170 students participated the event. The event was organised by Emceevengers UNITEN.
Born and raised in Kelantan to a school headmaster and housewife, Prof. Zamri attended his primary and secondary school years at his hometown prior to pursuing his A-Levels at Warwick School in the United Kingdom (UK). Prof Zamri was then offered to do his bachelor\’s degree in Mechanical Engineering at Imperial College London and then pursued masters at the University of Cambridge, where he compared the pace of life between London and Cambridge. Prof. Zamri then pursued his Doctor of Philosophy degree at University of Birmingham, the place where he met with our vice-chancellor Dato\’ Prof. Ir. Dr. Kamal Nasharuddin bin Mustapha. Upon returning from the UK, Prof Zamri kicked off his career with Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) and UNITEN.
Among those who attended were the Director of Student Affairs Centre UNITEN, Assoc Prof. Dr. Abdul Aziz Bin Mat Isa, Secretary General of Student Representative Council, Rabiatul Adawiyah binti Jamil and Emceevengers advisor, Mohd Amir Firdaus bin Mohamad Nadzari. Along with the moderator of the day, Ahmad Daniel Haziq Mahari bin Razol Mahari, the discussions with Prof. Zamri includes his legacy for UNITEN and his lifetime. He also shared 5 principles in order to achieve excellence, which are:
- Having a clear objective of what you want to achieve.
- You need to have a clear strategy and good plan.
- Sheer hardwork (not only to work smart).
- Having a blessing (restu).
- Maintain relationship with God all Mighty.
“I’m always proud of our graduates. They were received warmly by industry, not only in Malaysia but now even to the other parts of this globe. Some even had migrated to US, UK, Australia, Middle East and so on. I’m very proud to see the graduates’ success.” aaid Prof Zamri while explaining on his most impactful legacy in the field of engineering and IT. He further explained on the rising ranks of QS University Rankings for UNITEN, where the university is now among the top 500 Universities in the world in engineering and technology and attained top 201-250 for Electrical Engineering, top 301-400 for Mechanical Engineering and top 451-500 for Computer Science and Information Technology in the QS World Rankings by Subject.
“All of you are actually better than me. The very reason that I’m in front of here is just because I’m older than you. And I have the opportunities to learn everything ahead of you. I’m sure you’re better than me and you can do a lot more than me. Not just here, but when you move on and leave Uniten and contribute to the world later on.” Prof Zamri added at the end of his speech. The talk ended with presentation of token of appreciation and a photo session with Prof. Zamri.
