KUALA LUMPUR, 10th December – The Institute of Mechanical Engineers UNITEN (IMechE UNITEN) Student Chapter has done it again in making UNITEN a preferred choice for further studies.

During the latest annual dinner of IMechE Malaysia Branch on the 10th Dec 2016, IMechE UNITEN Student Chapter was announced the best student chapter for year 2015-2016. This is another great milestone achieved by the students’ members and committee of IMechE UNITEN student chapter in the year 2016.

On behalf of the student chapter committee, Keenan Kon, Secretary of IMechE UNITEN Student Chapter received the Best Student Chapter Trophy from Ir Mathew who is IMechE South East Asia Regional Chairman and Joel Bharath who is currently IMechE YMS Chairman.

“We are happy that our hard work has paid off. Very much thanks to the team and guidance from our new club advisor, Mr.Chua Yaw Long. This year, we have collaborated with the UNITEN Mechanical Engineering department in organising various project competitions and invited some well known speakers to give talks in UNITEN. In the future, we hope that the new committee board carry on this legacy and able to attract more girls to the committee board. (we need more female engineers!) and ultimately be the best IMechE Malaysia student chapter again!” said Vice-President of IMechE UNITEN, Marco Ong Kiat Teng.

Also present at the annual dinner were Prof. Ir. Dr Ong who is IMechE Malaysia Chairman, and Mr. Chua Yaw Long, Academic Liason Officer for IMechE UNITEN Student Chapter.  Nicholas Yeo and Lee Yu Xian both who are committee members of the student chapter were also present to witness the significant achievement.

“My team and I were really surprised by the announcement. I believe we would not have achieved this without the help from my fellow committees, lecturers and members. However, this does not put an end to our efforts in continuing the improvement and development of the student chapter due to the swift transformation of the technology world. We will give our 120% not only to retain this title, but to nurture all rounded mechanical engineering students as well” said Chong Kah Luo, president of IMechE UNITEN.
