Filming with Applause : UNITEN\’s Winning at PDSFC 2016

KUALA LUMPUR, 17th December – Once again, our UNITEN team has proved that our students are capable to achieve success beyond the engineering field on 17th December 2016. The UNITEN entry of the short film entitled \”Apps\” has won the special jury award in the Panasonic Digital Short Film Competition 2016 (PDSFC 2016), which is in line with the Short Shorts Film Festival & Asia 2016 (SSFFA 2016) at Content Malaysia Pitching Centre, Cinematique@Finas, Kuala Lumpur. This competition was jointly organised by Panasonic Malaysia and 42nd Pictures Production.

One of the brainchild of this competition was initiated by Yasu Tanaka, who is the owner of 42nd Pictures Production and director of the film \”Nota\”. Together with Bea Tanaka, who has recently won the Best Screenplay Award during the Filem Festival Malaysia or known as Malaysia Film Festival (FFM), and Lim Conn Ing of Panasonic Malaysia, Yasu Tanaka then become part of the key individuals in organising SSFFA 2016, which has been its seventh year with the help of the National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (FINAS).

There were over 30 group contestants handing in their short story entries to the secretariat of this competition and attended a screenplay class for 2 days. After meeting with each individual teams for storyline discussions, 5 groups, including the UNITEN team were shortlisted to make their respective productions.

\”We completed this short film being the only team with engineering and computer science backgrounds from UNITEN whilst all the other participants were mass communication students.\” said Palani Veloo, who has recently graduated from Electrical and Electronics Engineering in UNITEN. The group consists of 4 people, which are Rudhra Devan (Computer Science), Kehseegan Venugopalan (Mechanical Engineering), Vicgneesh Shanker (Mechanical Engineering) and Palani himself.

Palani added \”I would like to thank YBhg Prof. Dr. Mohd. Zamri Yusoff, Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Student Affairs and Alumni,  Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yap Keem Siah and the teams from College of Computer Science and Information Technology (CSIT), UNITEN Library, Kelompok Amanah and the 13 UNITEN students who gave us full support in every way. Overall I thank UNITEN for all the support and cooperation. The video is unavailable for the time being as we are planning to send it for another competition\”
