Aerospace Talk: The Challenges and Journey of a New Space Nation

\"\"PUTRAJAYA, 29th DECEMBER – A talk titled “Aerospace Talk: Challenges and Journey of New Space Nation” was organised by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers UNITEN (IMechE UNITEN on the 27th December at Dewan Kuliah 1 (DK1), College of Computer Science and Information Technology (CSIT), UNITEN. This talk was presented by Mohd Izmir Yamin, Founder and CEO of IndependenceX and Pulsar UAV, accompanied by Prof. Dr. Mohd. Zamri bin Yusoff, Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Students Affairs and Alumni, UNITEN, Ir Hasril Hasini, Head of Department of the Mechanical Engineering Department, UNITEN  and Mr. Chua Yaw Long, Advisor of IMechE UNITEN.

Throughout the talk, Izmir  shared his experience in the aerospace field from how he started with a small group of friends who shared such common interest, to becoming one of the 16 finalists of Google Lunar Xprize, competing with big names in the aerospace industry. He explained the progress in Malaysia’s aerospace industry, where IndependeceX is the only developing company in aerospace industry. Also, he emphasised how important is aerospace technology and achievements by other countries in this industry.

“Do not only look at engineering to be a good engineer. Instead, learn to be a good leader and an entrepreneur as well, then only you will be a good engineer” said Mr. Mohd Izmir Yamin.

Besides, Izmir has won Shell Eco-Marathon for 7 consecutive years in hydrogen fuel cell category. His success with Independence X has been published in Utusan Malaysia, The Star, Geo Magazine of Europe (Germany), MSNBC News, Market Wire, Asia Times, Space.com and CNN Tech.com on his expertise in rocket building technology and his participation in the Google Lunar XPRIZE, where his team is the only Malaysian and South East Asian participating team out of 16 teams worldwide.
